Dr Martin Strong, our Head Veterinarian and Owner at Motto Farm, has been helping bring puppies into the world since 1994 while working with Dr Rob Zammit. His passion and knowledge has had Martin develop quite a reputation in the Hunter Valley and surrounding areas for being incredibly thorough and having great success with his reproduction patients. We provide a compassionate, old fashioned service with the latest of modern technology in our clinic, including In-house pathology, ultrasonography, digital radiology, and endoscopy.

From start to finish, we’ve got you covered. We routinely perform pre-mating examinations, semen counting and analysis, progesterone tests for optimal mating times, mating assists, semen collection and fresh artificial insemination, chilled semen collection and insemination, frozen semen collection, frozen semen insemination, Surgical Artificial Insemination, Transcervical Inseminations (TCI) and elective caesareans.

What is Transcervical Insemination?

Trans-cervical insemination is a method used to pass semen through the cervix and deposit semen directly into the uterus. We use a video endoscope to visualise the cervix. We can then pass a special catheter through it and into the body of the uterus

The advantage and success rate is the same as the Surgical AI method of insemination without being as invasive and no Anaesthetic is required. It is more successful than a routine vaginal insemination as most of the sperm may not penetrate the cervix.

Bitches are inseminated in a standing position without sedation while one of our lovely nurses holds her in a nice and relaxed environment. They tolerate this very well as the procedure is painless and usually only takes about 30 minutes.

The decision on when to perform TCI is based on ovulation timing. For accurate ovulation timing we recommend a series of progesterone tests be performed where we use our In-House Progesterone machine to test the levels of progesterone and we can then schedule a TCI accordingly

We can also provide exportation and importation of frozen semen if required.
